As a part of the 6th AZURE Festival, will take place dance contest - Latvian Open Oriental Dance Cup 2016!

It’s an International competition and it is open for participants from any countries.

To enter the competition in soloist categories you must have booked at least one workshop.

To enter the competition in group categories two members of each group must have booked at least one workshop.


Categories

Female soloists:

- Amateurs (from 16 till 39 years old)
- Seniors-amateurs (from 40 years old)
- Seniors-instructors (from 40 years old)
- Professionals (from 18 years old)
- Fusion & Show-bellydance solo (from 16 years old)
- Baladi & Shaabi solo (from 16 years old)

Groups (from 2 members and more):

- Groups Oriental & Show
- Groups Folklore
Requirements


Amateurs solo

Age and requirements: participants from 16 till 39 years old, non-professional dancers.

You have to represent the dance in Oriental style (Raqs sharki)
Competitor’s own music, time limit 3.00 min.
Musical accompaniment can be:
- Classical oriental dance routine (“antrе”or “megeance” – an opening number with different rhythms);
- Arabic classical song or instrumental music composition, for example, music from repertoire of Um Kalthoum, Warda Al-Jazairia, Abdel Halim Hafez, Fayza Ahmed, Farid Al-Atrash, Mohammed Abdel Wahab etc.;
- Modern arab song in oriental manner;
- It’s forbidden to use pop and techno music versions.
- Pure drum-solo should not be longer than 30% of the length of competitor’s performance music

Classical two piece costume.
Props: you can use veil (tarha) or/and sagats.

In case there will be more than 7 participants registered in the category, there will be semi-final.
For semi-final competitors dance their own dance solo, time limit 1.00 min.


Seniors-amateurs solo

Age and requirements: participants from 40 years old and older, non-professional dancers.

You have to represent the dance in Oriental style (Raqs sharki)
Competitor’s own music, time limit 3.00 min.

Musical accompaniment can be:
- Classical oriental dance routine (“antrе”or “megeance” – an opening number with different rhythms);
- Arabic classical song or instrumental music composition, for example, music from repertoire of Um Kalthoum, Warda Al-Jazairia, Abdel Halim Hafez, Fayza Ahmed, Farid Al-Atrash, Mohammed Abdel Wahab etc.;
- Baladi or modern arab song in oriental manner;
- It’s forbidden to use pop and techno music versions.
- Pure drum-solo should not be longer than 30% of the length of competitor’s performance music

Classical two piece costume.
Props: you can use veil (tarha) or/and sagats.

In case there will be more than 7 participants registered in the category, there will be semi-final.
For semi-final competitors dance their own dance solo, time limit 1.00 min.


Seniors-instructors solo

Age and requirements: participants from 40 years old and older, dance instructors and teachers.

You have to represent the dance in Oriental style (Raqs sharki)
Competitor’s own music, time limit 3.00 min.

Musical accompaniment can be:
- Classical oriental dance routine (“antrе”or “megeance” – an opening number with different rhythms);
- Arabic classical song or instrumental music composition, for example, music from repertoire of Um Kalthoum, Warda Al-Jazairia, Abdel Halim Hafez, Fayza Ahmed, Farid Al-Atrash, Mohammed Abdel Wahab etc.;
- Modern arab song in oriental manner;
- It’s forbidden to use pop and techno music versions.
- Pure drum-solo should not be longer than 30% of the length of competitor’s performance music

This category depending on number of participants. If you are interested in, please, book place. We need at least 5 participants. All payments will be returned if category will be cancelled.
In case there will be more than 7 participants registered in the category, there will be semi-final.
For semi-final competitors dance their own dance solo, time limit 1.00 min.


Professionals solo

Age and requirements: participants from 18 years old and older, professional dancers and oriental dance instructors.

You have to represent the dance in Oriental style (Raqs sharki)
Competitor’s own music, time limit 4.00 min.
Musical accompaniment can be:
- Classical oriental dance routine (“antrе”or “megeance” – an opening number with different rhythms);
- Arabic classical song or instrumental music composition, for example, music from repertoire of Um Kalthoum, Warda Al-Jazairia, Abdel Halim Hafez, Fayza Ahmed, Farid Al-Atrash, Mohammed Abdel Wahab etc.;
- Modern arab song in oriental manner;
- It’s forbidden to use pop and techno music versions.
- Pure drum-solo should not be longer than 30% of the length of competitor’s performance music

Classical two piece costume.
Props: you can use veil (tarha) or/and sagats.
In case there will be more than 7 participants registered in the category, there will be semi-final.
Semi-final:
Improvisation on classical oriental music, the participants firstly dance all together - 1.00 min. and then each participant dance solo - 1.00 min.
The best five dancers will perform in the final.


Fusion & Show-bellydance solo

Age: participants from 16 years old and older
Musical accompaniment: Competitor’s own music, time limit 3.00 min. (any arabic or oriental style music, the mainstream in music theme must be oriental)
Technique of Belly Dance is obligatory and should predominate.
It’s permitted to use any accessories except for open flame.
Originality, creativity, special effects, creative costumes, working with accessories are encouraged, choreography may incorporate different dance styles.
Revealing costumes (revealing transparent skirts, high slits, etc.) is forbidden!
It’s permitted to use scenery if the competitors themselves put and remove the objects in 15 seconds.
The competitors remove themselves all scenery and accessories from the stage after the performance!

In case there will be more than 7 participants registered in the category, there will be semi-final.
For semi-final competitors dance their own dance solo, time limit 1.00 min.


Baladi & Shaabi solo

Age: participants from 16 years old and older

Competitor’s own music, time limit 3.00 min.
You have to represent the dance in Baladi or Shaabi style, in a corresponding costume and contain characteristic movements, manners of the style.
Oriental manner in this category is unlike.
Musical accompaniment can be:
- Instrumental baladi composition, baladi accordion, baladi progression;
- Egyptian baladi song;
- Egyptian shaabi song;
- It’s forbidden to use pop and techno music versions.

In case there will be more than 7 participants registered in the category, there will be semi-final.
For semi-final competitors dance their own dance solo, time limit 1.00 min.


GROUPS (from 2 members and more)

Groups Oriental & Show

Competition will be held in one round.

Musical accompaniment: Competitor’s own music, time limit 3 min. 30 sec.(any oriental instrumental music or song).
It’s permitted to use any accessories relating to the Middle East culture, except for open flame.
Technique of Belly Dance is obligatory and should predominate.
It’s permitted to use scenery if the competitors themselves put and remove the objects in 15 seconds.
The competitors remove themselves all scenery and accessories from the stage after the performance!

Groups Folklore

Competition will be held in one round.

Musical accompaniment: Competitor’s own music, time limit 3 min. 30 sec.
Folk dance of the Middle East countries and regions.
Folkloric dance must be performed using music of the particular nationality being represented, in a corresponding costume and contain characteristic movements, manners and themes of that specific folk genre.

It’s permitted to use thematic accessories except for open flame.
Judging criteria

Criteria of evaluation in soloist categories:
1. Image (costume, make-up, hair styling),
2. Technique (quality and aesthetics of performance, manner)
3. Composition/Choreography
4. General impression (artistic expressions, individuality)

Each criterion has a score ranging from 1 to 10 points.

Criteria of evaluation in group categories:
1. Image (costumes should correspond to the style, make-up, hair styling)
2. Technique (quality and aesthetics of performance, manner)
3. Choreography (composition, variations, patterns of a dance)
4. Synchronicity (dancing in step)
5. General impression (artistic expressions, individuality)

Each criterion has a score ranging from 1 to 10 points.
Award and prizes

Each competitor will get a signed certificate of participation.

There will be awarded 1st, 2nd, 3rd prize winners in each category.

The application for the competition becomes valid only with received application fee.

Entrance tickets for the Competition and Open Stage part you can buy on the spot, on the Festival registration desk, 5 EUR.
The leaders of participant groups have free entance (according to the registation list).
