As a part of the 8th AZURE Festival, will take place dance contest - Latvian Open Oriental Dance Cup 2019!

It’s an International competition and it is open for participants from any countries.

To enter the competition in soloist categories you must have booked at least one workshop.

To enter the competition in group categories two members of each group must have booked at least one workshop.

  • Juvenals soloists

Age and requirements: participants from 8 till 12 years old. Participants whos age turns to 8, 12 during this year (2019) can choose desired nomination.
Revealing costumes - revealing transparent skirts, high slits without built-in shorts, etc. is forbidden. The costume must cover intimate parts at all times.

Oriental
You have to represent the dance in Oriental style (Raqs sharki)
Competitor’s own music, time limit 3.00 min.
Musical accompaniment can be:
- Classical oriental dance routine (“antrе”or “megeance” – an opening number with different rhythms);
- Arabic classical song or instrumental music composition, for example, music from repertoire of Um Kalthoum, Warda Al-Jazairia, Abdel Halim Hafez, Fayza Ahmed, Farid Al-Atrash, Mohammed Abdel Wahab etc.;
- Modern arab song in oriental manner;
It’s forbidden to use pop and techno music versions.
Pure drum-solo should not be longer than 30% of the length of competitor’s performance music

Folklore
You have to represent the folklore dance of the Middle East countries and regions, specifically: Saidi, Ghawazee, Nubian, Hagalla, Fallahi, Bambouti, Eskandarani, Tunisian, Moroccan, Algerian, Khalijee, Iraqi, Bandari, Dabke, Shamadan (folkloric), Siwa.
Unallowable styles: Baladi song, baladi progression, shaabi, street shaabi.
Competitor’s own music, time limit 3.00 min.
Folkloric dance must be performed using music of the particular nationality being represented, in a corresponding costume and contain characteristic movements, manners and themes of that specific folk genre.
It’s permitted to use thematic accessories except for open flame.

Fusion & Show-bellydance
Musical accompaniment: Competitor’s own music, time limit 3.00 min. (any arabic or oriental style music, the mainstream in music theme must be oriental)
Technique of Belly Dance is obligatory and should predominate.
It’s permitted to use any accessories except for open flame.
Originality, creativity, special effects, creative costumes, working with accessories are encouraged, choreography may incorporate different dance styles.
Revealing costumes (revealing transparent skirts, high slits, etc.) is forbidden!
It’s permitted to use scenery if the competitors themselves put and remove the objects in 15 seconds.
The competitors remove themselves all scenery and accessories from the stage after the performance.

Fusion & Show-bellydance

Age and requirements: participants from 18 years old and older, professional dancers and oriental dance instructors.
Competition will take place in two obligatory rounds, the marks of both rounds will be summed up.

Criteria of evaluation in soloist categories:
1. Image (costume, make-up, hair styling),
2. Technique (quality and aesthetics of performance, manner)
3. Composition/Choreography
4. General impression (artistic expressions, individuality)

Each criterion has a score ranging from 1 to 10 points.

Criteria of evaluation in group categories:
1. Image (costumes should correspond to the style, make-up, hair styling)
2. Technique (quality and aesthetics of performance, manner)
3. Choreography (composition, variations, patterns of a dance)
4. Synchronicity (dancing in step)
5. General impression (artistic expressions, individuality)

Each criterion has a score ranging from 1 to 10 points.
Award and prizes

Each competitor will get a signed certificate of participation.

There will be awarded 1st, 2nd, 3rd prize winners in each category.

The judges’ decision will be final.

The deadline for the applications is: 24:00 on the 4th of May, 2019.
The application for the competition becomes valid only with received application fee.

Tickets

You can buy entrance tickets for the competition part and the open stage part on the spot, on the organizer’s registration desk, 5 EUR. Ticket is valid all day.
The leaders of participant groups have free entance (according to the registation list).
